Christmas Fun

We had a very special visitor at our house on Saturday - Santa!

He came to have breakfast with us and some of our friends.  It was a very special morning.  I'll post more pictures of the fun party on Friday - but I wanted to share a few fun recipes and a special Christmas count down idea -
it isn't too late to make one!!

One thing on the menu for Santa's Breakfast was
Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed Bread
My friend Allison made this years ago and I fell in love with it!  To make it a bit easier this time, I opted not to do the crumb topping - but it's awesome!
Lemon Blueberry Poppy seed Bread
 Bread:
1 package of Duncan Hines Bakery Style Blueberry Muffin Mix
2 T poppy seeds
1 egg
¾ c water
1 T grated lemon peel
Drizzle:
½ c confectioners sugar
1T lemon juice
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 8X4 inch loaf pan.
  1. Rinse blueberries with cold water and drain.
  2. For bread, combine muffin mix and poppy seeds in medium bowl. Break up any lumps. Add egg add water. Stir until moistened, about 50 strokes. Fold in blueberries and lemon peel. Pour into pan. Sprinkle with contents of topping packet from mix.
  3. Bake at 350 for 57-62 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Loosen loaf from pan. Invert onto cooling rack. Turn upside down**. Cool completely.
  4. For drizzle, combine confectioners sugar and lemon juice in small bowl. Stir until smooth. Drizzle over loaf.
** To keep topping intact when removing loaf from pan, place aluminum foil over top.
And on Friday one of our sweet babysitters came over with a Christmas count down for the children.  It is a tradition in her family, and she wanted to share it with us!  It's a Candy Chain!  24 little bundles of candy (3 in each bundle - one for each child in our family) - the kids LOVE it and it's so fun to hang!  One of our elves - Snowy, was keeping watch over it at the party!
Why haven't I seen this on Pintrist?

See you Friday with all the pictures from Santa's Breakfast!
